5.5 Please note that when we send you the newsletter, we analyze your user behavior. For purposes of this analysis, the emails that we send contain “Web beacons” or “tracking pixels,” which are one-pixel image files that are stored on our website. For the analyses, we link the data mentioned in Section 3 and the Web beacons to your email address and an individual ID. The data are collected exclusively in pseudonymized form, so the IDs are not linked to your other personal data, thereby preventing a direct link to a particular person. The information is stored for as long as you have subscribed to the newsletter. After you log out, we store the data anonymously and solely for statistical purposes. Moreover, this type of tracking is not possible if you have deactivated the display of images by default in your email program. In this case, you cannot view the entire newsletter, and you may not be able to use all of the features. If you manually display the images, the aforementioned tracking takes place.

8. Online advertising

8.1 Use of Google AdWords Conversion

8.1.1 We use Google AdWords to draw attention to our attractive offers with the help of advertising media (“Google AdWords”) on external websites. Based on the advertising campaign data, we can determine how successful the individual advertising activities are. Thus, we aim to show you advertisements that are of interest to you in order to make our website more interesting to you and to obtain a fair calculation of our advertising costs.

8.1.2 These advertising media are supplied by Google via “ad servers.” To do this, we use ad server cookies, which measure certain performance metrics, such as ad integration or user clicks. If you access our website through a Google ad, Google AdWords will save a cookie on your PC. These cookies usually lose their validity after 30 days and are not intended to identify you personally. This cookie usually saves the unique cookie ID, the number of ad impressions per placement (frequency), the last impression (relevant to post-view conversions), and the opt-out information (which indicates that the user has opted out) as analytical values.

8.1.3 These cookies enable Google to recognize your web browser. If a user visits certain pages of an AdWords customer’s website and the cookie stored on its computer has not yet expired, Google and the customer may discover that the user clicked on the ad and was redirected to that page. Every AdWords customer is assigned a different cookie. Therefore, cookies cannot be tracked through the websites of AdWords customers. We ourselves do not collect and/or process any personal data in the advertising activities mentioned above. We merely receive statistical evaluations provided by Google. Based on these evaluations, we can identify which of the advertising activities used were particularly effective. We do not receive any additional data from the use of the advertising media. Specifically, we cannot identify the user based on this information.

8.1.4 Based on the marketing tools used, your browser automatically establishes a direct connection to Google’s server. We have no control over the extent or the further use of the data collected through the use of this tool by Google. Therefore, we shall inform you of the following to the best of our knowledge and understanding: By integrating AdWords Conversion, Google is notified that you called up the respective part of our website or clicked on one of our ads. If you are registered with a service provided by Google, Google may associate the visit to your account. Even if you are not registered with Google or are not logged in, it is possible that the provider will find out and store your IP address.

8.1.5 You can prevent participation in this tracking process in several ways: a) by configuring your browser software to suppress third-party cookies so that you do not receive any ads from third-party providers; b) by deactivating the cookies for conversion tracking by configuring your browser to block cookies from the domain “www.googleadservices.com” and https://www.google.de/settings/ads; but note that this setting will be deleted when you delete your cookies; c) by deactivating interest-based ads from providers that are part of the “About Ads” self-regulation campaign, via the link http://www.aboutads.info/choices, but note that this setting will be deleted when you delete your cookies; d) by permanent deactivation in your Firefox, Internet Explorer or Google Chrome browser via the link http://www.google.com/settings/ads/plugin. However, please note that if you permanently deactivate cookies, you may not be able to use all features of this offering.

8.1.6 The legal basis for the processing of your data is Art. 6 (1) sentence 1 (f) GDPR. You can find more information about data protection at Google here: http://www.google.com/intl/de/policies/privacy and https://services.google.com/sitestats/de.html. Alternatively, you can visit the website of the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) at http://www.networkadvertis-ing.org. Google has submitted to the EU-US Privacy Shield, https://www.pri-vacyshield.gov/EU-US-Framework.

8.2 Remarketing

In addition to AdWords Conversion, we use the Google Remarketing application. This is a process we would like to use to contact you again. This application allows us to show you our ads after you have visited our website and while you continue using the Internet. This occurs via cookies stored in your browser, which record and evaluate your usage behavior when visiting different websites via Google. This is how Google can detect your prior visit to our website. According to Google, it does not combine the data collected in the context of remarketing with your personal data, which may be stored by Google. Specifically, according to Google, pseudonymization is used in remarketing.

8.3 DoubleClick by Google

8.3.1 This website also uses the online marketing tool DoubleClick by Google. DoubleClick utilizes cookies to show relevant ads to users in order to improve campaign performance reports or to prevent a user from seeing the same ads multiple times. Google uses a cookie ID to determine which ads are displayed in which browser and can thus prevent these ads from being displayed multiple times. Furthermore, DoubleClick can use cookie IDs to track conversions related to ad requests. This may apply if a user sees a DoubleClick ad and subsequently uses the same browser to call up the advertiser’s website and makes a purchase there. According to Google, DoubleClick cookies do not contain any personal information.

8.3.2 Based on the marketing tools used, your browser automatically establishes a direct connection to Google’s server. We have no control over the extent or further use of the data collected through the use of this tool by Google. Therefore, we shall inform you of the following to the best of our knowledge and understanding: By integrating DoubleClick, Google is notified that you called up the respective part of our website or clicked on one of our ads. If you are registered with a service provided by Google, Google may associate the visit with your account. Even if you are not registered with Google or are not logged in, it is possible that the provider will find out and store your IP address.

8.3.3 You can prevent participation in this tracking process in several ways: a) by configuring your browser software to suppress third-party cookies so that you do not receive any ads from third-party providers; b) by deactivating the cookies for conversion tracking by configuring your browser to block cookies from the domain “www.googleadservices.com” and https://www.google.de/settings/ads, but note that this setting will be deleted when you delete your cookies; c) by deactivating interest-based ads from providers that are part of the “About Ads” self-regulation campaign, via the link http://www.aboutads.info/choices, but note that this setting will be deleted when you delete your cookies; d) by permanent deactivation in your Firefox, Internet Explorer or Google Chrome browser via the link http://www.google.com/settings/ads/plugin. However, please note that if you permanently deactivate cookies, you may not be able to use the fully functionality of this offering.

8.3.4 The legal basis for our processing of your data is Art. 6 (1) sentence 1 (f) GDPR. You will find additional information about DoubleClick by Google at https://www.google.de/doubleclick and http://support.google.com/adsense/answer/2839090, and about data protection at Google in general: https://www.google.de/intl/de/policies/privacy. You can also visit the website of the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) at http://www.networkadvertising.org. Google has submitted to the EU-US Privacy Shield, https://www.privacyshield.gov/EU-US-Framework.
